Investing in Parks
Good Parks Make Great Cities!
Families in Windsor know that our local parks, community centres, and public spaces are what make this city feel like a community. These amenities are gathering places that families rely on for sport and fitness, and the City’s programming provides affordable and accessible options for child and youth activities.
“Communities need public spaces, and I’m proud that during my time as Mayor, we’ve renewed, renovated, and expanded access to parks, arenas, pools, and community centres for families and seniors to use and cherish,” said Drew Dilkens. “As demographics change, we need to continue to expand and invest in parks and outdoor amenities that inspire and support healthy, active, engaged living for residents.”

Investing in Parks:
-
Invest in the largest parks and public spaces rehabilitation program in the City’s history.
-
Open the Ojibway National Urban Park in Windsor while protecting barrier-free access in perpetuity.
-
Save Peche Island and ensure continued access and enjoyment of this natural asset.
-
Implement the Sandpoint Beach Master Plan to support the next evolution of this asset.
-
Beautify all parks and reduce areas identified for the Naturalization Program.
-
Create additional trails, and add benches, lighting, signage, and amenities to our parks.
While some candidates in this campaign complain about the cost of investing in parks and public spaces, Drew Dilkens knows that residents expect the City to create and renew our community infrastructure.
“Today, I’m talking about parks. Soon, I’ll be sharing my plans for other public spaces, programming, and experiences that matter most to Windsor families. We’re getting the big things right – roads, bridges, and sewers; but what makes a house a home are our community spaces, including the ones we’ve delivered under my leadership,” concluded Dilkens. “Anyone who opposes investments in vital community infrastructure should give their heads a shake!”
