Dilkens’ Plan Targets 2,500 new Jobs over 4-year term

​

Residents know that Drew Dilkens is a proven fighter when it comes to attracting investment and job creation in Windsor. With thousands of new jobs created in the City of Windsor from NextStar Energy to local Community Improvement Plan (CIP) investments, our community has seen significant economic expansion over the past few years. The City of Windsor cannot control international trade dynamics – but in areas where the municipality is responsible, it is Drew Dilkens’ plan to keep attracting and retaining investment in jobs right here at home.

 

“Let me be clear,” started Dilkens. “Governments don’t create jobs, we can create the conditions where entrepreneurs and businesses want to locate leading to jobs and growth.”

 

Like the housing target set by the Province of Ontario – Dilkens believes it is time to challenge local officials, Council, Administration and all related agencies to create the conditions – and has set an ambitious, yet achievable target to create 2,500 new jobs before the end of the next term of Council, in 2030.

Dilkens' Plan for Future Economic Expansion

 

  • Permit Processing Guarantee – make the City of Windsor accountable and speed up approvals by reducing permit fees if internal reviews extend beyond pre-established timelines, driving certainty and predictability for investors.

  • Sandwich South Servicing – create the ‘shovel ready’ conditions for job creators to locate in the areas.

  • Commitment to Research and Development – leverage the new hospital to ensure a Health Research and Development district gets built to drive job creation in life sciences, biotech, medtech, and applied health research.

  • Launch a Business Expansion & Retention Program – for legacy and current employers, work to relieve any remaining red-tape burden that limits or inhibits jobs and growth.

  • Energize Windsor – work with the Province of Ontario and energy agencies to ensure adequate transmission and generation capacity in the region, to ensure that electricity connection is never a limiting factor for investment.

  • Defence Strategy – partner with Invest WindsorEssex and market our community as a strategic location for new defence production, to align with the Government of Canada’s objective of more domestic production.

 

“A target helps focus the mind and drive all players towards a common goal,” continued Dilkens. “Some of these jobs will come from major economic wins, while others might be 10 or 20 new hires at an existing Windsor employer. We’re open for business and we want to help existing and new businesses thrive and grow right here at home.”
